Applying For A Job: 3 Important Tips For Individuals with Developmental Disabilities

Job hunting is not always easy, but it can be particularly challenging for disabled individuals. There are a lot of factors that can negatively affect a disabled person’s job prospects. However, at Global Hands, Inc., we believe that your disability shouldn’t stop you from getting the job that you want.

Here are some tips from us when preparing for that job search and interview:

-Check the location’s accessibility. Make sure to check the company’s accessibility first. Do they have wheelchair accessible ramps? Do they offer disabled parking spaces? Do they allow guide dogs? This tip may be optional depending on our specific disability.

-Discussing your disability. Answering questions about your disability is not always required. However, you may disclose and answer appropriate questions about your disability that can help your future employer make certain adjustments. On the other hand, you should do your best to focus on the things that you can do and how great you are as a potential candidate.

-Ask questions. Job interviewers and recruiters appreciate candidates who ask good questions. This shows that you are truly invested in the position that you are applying for.
